Get Involved

Every Cub Scout should have a parent or other caring adult leader that is involved in some way with the Pack. Having parents or other caring adult leaders volunteer and participate helps the Pack stay active and healthy, allowing us to do more for our Scouts.

There are a variety of ways to volunteer at different levels of commitment. Any time you are able to give is tremendously valuable and very much appreciated by pack leadership. We also have specific positions in the Pack, listed below, that would be a major benefit if filled.

Please contact your den leader or any other pack committee if you are interested in helping in any capacity. You may also fill out the BSA’s Family Talent Survey and submit it if you want to help out and would like to put your many talents to use.

Volunteering Opportunities

Basic Adult Outdoor Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO) Trained Adult

Every time a group of Cub Scouts goes camping, at least one adult in the group must have current BALOO training. This person does not have to hold a position of leadership in the pack. Being BALOO-trained means that the person has received training regarding safe camping procedures. Training is provided through our BSA district and involves attending one ½-day training session. Training cost is covered by the pack. Ideally the pack would have one BALOO-trained adult in every den.

Camping Committee

Work with the Cubmaster and den leaders to coordinate camping trips for the pack. Duties include setting dates, securing a campsite, filing a tour permit with the Lake Erie Council BSA office, coordinating food and cooking duties, organizing activities with den leader and Cubmaster input, particularly regarding potential rank requirements that could be covered during a camping trip, and securing volunteers as necessary to run/supervise campout activities.

Cubmaster/Assistant Cubmaster

Responsibilities include planning and running pack meetings, facilitating monthly leader meetings, attending district meetings, and prep work for some pack activities/events. The Cubmaster is supported by the pack den leaders. Cubmaster training and uniform will be provided at no cost.

Den Leader/Assistant Den Leader

Coordinate activities and outings for your den that correspond to rank-specific requirements as spelled out in the handbook. Track activities that Scouts in the den have completed and award recognition as necessary. Attend monthly leader meetings and assist the Cubmaster at pack meetings. Training is provided through our BSA district.

Hospitality Committee

Coordinate food to be sold at the Santa’s Secret Shop (December) and Pinewood Derby (January) events as well as volunteers to help with sales. Plan food and decorations for the pack Blue & Gold dinner in February, which is a celebration of Scouting and of the pack’s Webelos Scouts who are transitioning to Boy Scouts.

Publicity Committee

Work with BSA district personnel and others to organize at least two recruitment events for Olmsted Falls Cub Scouting during the year. Publicize these and other pack events through the school district and local media outlets as needed throughout the year. Work with the Santa’s Secret Shop committee to organize publicity for this event, including designing, printing, and distributing fliers, posters, and yard signs.

  • Key roles on this committee are:

  • Webmaster – Work closely with the leaders, Cubmaster, and other pack committees to communicate important information to pack members via the pack’s website.

  • Signup Genius Coordinator – Creates signups for pack events using the online Signup Genius system, tracks responses, and fields questions to event organizers as necessary.

Newsletter Committee

Gather information from the pack Cubmaster and den leaders on upcoming events and pack needs which is then communicated through a monthly newsletter that is emailed to all pack members.

Pack Outing Coordinators

Coordinate social outings for the pack throughout the scouting year, create and monitor Signup Genius posts, communicate details to for Newsletter/Web. Past outings have included Sky Zone; Cavs, Browns, & Indians games; and tobogganing. We are open to new ideas!

Pinewood Derby Committee

Secure car kits for the pack and distribute to scouts, secure and coordinate volunteers for set-up and the day of, and communicate necessary information regarding rules and regulations for newsletter/web.

Scheduling Committee

This committee will work with other committees and the Cubmaster to secure space at the schools & other venues in the community for pack events (pack meetings, Santa’s Secret Shop, Pinewood Derby, Blue and Gold Dinner, etc…).

Santa’s Secret Shop Committee

Coordinate all aspects of this fundraiser for the pack. Organize a committee of volunteers to obtain donations from local businesses for a raffle, sell raffle tickets, publicize the event, sell food and other activities the day of. Secure Santa and entertainment. Work with the shop vendor to receive, price, track and return store merchandise. Coordinate youth volunteers and others. Oversee event setup and take-down.
